Westmount Photography

Sudbury, Ontario

“Westmount Photography has been around for many years. It started around 1974, way before I even had an inclination for photography. In 1985 the owners moved on and I took it over at the tender age of 25. That means, to date, I’ve been at it for, oooo, say, something like 22 years.

When you include the 5 years that I dedicated to photography prior to taking over the studio, including running a retail studio, working as a lab tech in a commercial/industrial studio and working as a school photographer, I’ve been at this for 27 years total, as I write this. And there is no end in sight.

This is a creative job that gets better with time, if you have the right attitude and stay resilient and open, as opposed to getting stuck in a rut and getting stale. I love my my job. I see progress every year and know that time and experience are invaluable qualities that we bring to every session.

Favorite saying:

“This is the true joy in life…being used for a purpose recognized
by yourself as a mighty one…being a force of Nature instead of a feverish
selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world
will not devote itself to making you happy…I am of the opinion that my
life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live it is my privilege
to do for it whatever I can. I want to be used up when I die. For the harder
I work the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief
candle to me. It’s a sort of splendid torch which I’ve got to hold up for
the moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing
it on to future generations.”
