News about the Sudbury Symphony

Sudbury Symphony ROCKS!

Victor Sawa Sudbury Symphony Maestro

 Victor Sawa. Sudbury Symphony Conductor

I’ve been going to the Symphony since Victor Sawa’s been Maestro.

That’s about 10 years now! Wow, time flies. That’s a lot of shows, and one thing I have to say is every performance has been top notch.

As the ‘official photographer’ of the symphony (that’s just another way of saying I work for tickets :) …actually, I love to help out all things community), I occasionally get asked to take photos of the symphony.

Last week I did just that. I’ve done two symphony group shots in the past, the first time being around 1998, and the second time about two years later. I don’t think they liked the first one. I have to admit it was a little on the eclectic side. The next one was more usable, but it was getting old. Besides, they have this new venue, the Glad Tadings Tabernacle, Regent st., and the Fraser Auditorium was an awful place to pose and light an entire symphony.

One thing about these musician types that I noticed the first times I photographed them was that they had about as much patience as cat in a roomful of mice. I knew I needed to be fast! So, I went early, set up, strategized and promised Victor and all that I would get it done in TWO MINUTES. Which I did.

Hey, I’m getting better at this!

After I was done the official shot of the symphony I did two things. I asked Victor for 30 seconds and captured a single portrait of him and then I simply walked around and took some candid shots of the symphony as they rehearsed.

Someone asked me if they dressed up and met me just for the photo shoot. Not in a million years. They were there to rehearse for the show the next night. They did however wear their formal clothes for the photo, even though it was a rehearsal.

Check out my slide show I created with all the candid images. Turn your speakers up!
