Westmount Photography Winter Newsletter….

"Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is
the sacred experience of living every moment with love and gratitude.  There is always,
always, always something to be thankful for and some reason to love.  So be sure to
appreciate what you've got.  Be thankful for the little things in life that mean a lot."

Greetings friends....
A late seasons greetings and happy new year from us over at Westmount Photography...
Tina, Danielle and Rob with a sand made Xmas tree on the beach in Tamarindo,
Costa Rica....

Life gets busy for us around the studio at Christmas time and this year was especially
tight for time since we planned a holiday in Costa Rica and made it there on Christmas eve....fun...and hot...
We always meet many Canadians down there, since it is becoming a very popular
spot for canucks. We can't say enough good things about Costa Rica, the country,
the people.
We don't think we're going back next Christmas sine the place we jammed
with tourist, most of whom were Costa Ricans, who love to visit Tamarindo
during their 2 week holidays.
As they say, Pura Vida!

Family portraits UPDATE

Family portraits are always in vogue, no matter what. And many, many clients
appreciate good quality, well posed images.... I know, I know....everyone is a
photographer these days.....
I hear it, say for example when someone talks about their friends daughter
who now owns a "really good camera".... and everyone thinks that that's the key
to photography.....until they try it....
Truth is, families are tough....very tough...you have all those ages, the dynamics,
the adults, the hyper two year old boy (and girls)...on and on....and then there's the
lighting, the posing for maximum flatter, harmony, balance..on and on...you get the
picture....

And try this at the falls.....what fun this was...seriously, I had  a blast shooting these...
In spite of all the challenges of shooting families, they are STILL my favorite session
of all time.....

Baby and children portraits UPDATE

Thanks to everyone for making babies. They're great for business...:):)

The big trend these days are those cute sleeping baby poses
and props. We do those, have them and always tell the new parents
when they come in for a newborn session that these sessions
take the longest, are the poopiest and we all need loads of patience.

Often it will take up to three hours, many being only two hours....
But my favorite poses are "old school" I guess, with the parents
in the image, holding the baby.
After all, it's natural and is what we do, right? We hold them, all
the time. And love them with all our hearts.
Can it get any more real than that I ask?

Littler kids....are always a pleasure... one of our most popular
memberships was the Kreative Kids Klub program and we're
talking about bringing it back due to popular demand....

Keep an eye out for that! Should be very cool!
Meanwhile, the newest for girls is the "Renaissance Look"....
we have new dresses and some cool props.....

And of course, Fairy Day is always, ALWAYS  a huge hit...every spring
and every fall we run it and it books out solid. A favorite....
Next Fairy Day will be announced soon....

Obsessed with photography...

Wherever I go I have to shoot. It's my nature, my OCD...
last summers, spent a few glorious weekends out on the big
waters by Britt....what a stunning area, and what scenes...
Here's  a few images to show you what I mean....
*****************************************************
ok, I hate to do this, but if I had to choose my.....

favorite Session of the year...

it would go to these guys....The Thompson Family shoot....

Let me explain....first off, I shot their wedding years ago. Then, each girl
came in for a Babies First Year Wall panel....(yes, that's three sisters in the family..
I see future weddings down the road too :)..maybe I'll still be shooting weddings
well into my retirement years -I'm 54 now.)
I like em already....:) Repeat clients...and they're super duper nice people,
not to mention awesome kids... And then, what do they go do? Make another!
This time, a boy...yeaaa!
There they are, top left, expecting...and right, there he is...what a handsome little
guy he is....congrats and thank you for choosing us over and over....it means so much
to be the one who captures such meaningful and emotional events
in people's live. We appreciate it!

While we're on  the topic of making babies, many couples
love the idea of capturing that time with a creative and artistic portrait...
you know, a maternity shot...some samples from 2012....

Congrats to Kara and Jeff! They just delivered
a beautiful baby girl  Jan 10, 2013. These maternity
portraits were created last November....
Every couple has different tastes and desires, and I ask questions,
get inside their mind and discover what images would work best,
combined with some creative and artistic input.....

Weddings...are always popular and I shoot my fair share of them
every year....

It seems like everyone is a wedding photographer these days, so I caution any
new bride to choose their photographer based on other qualities above
and beyond the cameras they own....

Community.....
We are still the main shooter for Sudbury living...and Sudbury Family magazine...
click on image above to get to their Facebook page....great publications! Very
well received by many in the community...

Of course this newsletter wouldn't be complete without
a pic and mention of our pride and joy, Danielle.....she's 17 now, grade12
at StCharles....

And finally, if you love Pinterest, we just

started a new studio account...

Or better yet, send us your images from your home
so we can include them in our account. We're looking for creative
cool ways to decorate your home suing portraits.
Here's one from one our clients last year. Actually, the mom snapped the wall
she was considering hanging the portraits of her family, I added them in photoshop
to show her what it would look like. Very cool...here it is...
That's it for now folks. Stay tuned more to come....
Okay, okay, one more shot. Me in my undies outside in January
with the cool red couch...
Yours in photography, Rob
