Do you suffer from PAS?

November 7, 2014

Do you suffer from PAS?
Scared woman covering her face on black background

Also known as “Picture Avoidance Syndrome”

I see it all the time.

We all suffer from this common affliction where we have to deal with the fact that there is  a gap between how we see ourselves and how others see us. It’s why even the most beautiful young lady says: “I hate having my picture taking….” OR… ” I can’t stand looking at my pictures…my nose is big, my cheeks are fat..my bla bla bla…”

You know what I mean.

Some suck it up and get with the game. Especially those who know that getting with the program is important to creating the best results for work or business or for loved ones.

Telling me, the photographer “I hate having my picture taken” doesn’t do a thing for me.

It doesn’t help me in the least bit.

Seriously, what am I supposed to do with that information? Besides, I hear it nine out of ten times. So it’s not like you have some unique disorder.

But I do get it. And want to help you. The first step is identifying the condition. Some run, avoid having photos taken. Others play along and pose. Some are quite good and pull it together so we can get best results.

Of course, the best situation is having a photographer who understand this, and has the skills and ability to help you relax, understand what we’re trying to achieve.

And all the while being able to use the best of his or her abilities to “see” the best pose, the most flattering angles and of course, the best light.

When you have this, and you’re willing to work with me, it becomes a win/win….especially for you, who thinks they hate having their picture taken, and ends up actually liking the experience and loving the results.

And the truth is, how others “see” you is accurate. How you see yourself is not.

It’s why I tell my clients to trust their friends and family when choosing an image from a photo session. Their opinion is objective and accurate while ours is an illusion.
